Rejig post-graduate education in STEM disciplines
The market is flooded with study abroad consultants for facilitating admissions of Indian students to foreign Universities. Among different reasons for students getting enticed for studying abroad, the positive perception nucleated by different Global Ranking indices about foreign HEIs and negative perception about the limitations of Indian HEIs in securing good positions in the ranking list seemingly plays a predominant role.
Simultaneously, the other two factors playing a significant role include time duration and cost of the postgraduate programs. Further, there has been a significant increase in the fees of postgraduate courses across the country.
Postgraduate education in STEM calls for revitalizing it for preventing both the brain drain and money drain. Ideally, there should not be any objection to students moving overseas for higher education, but the unavailability of intellectual potential for the larger good of the country is concerning.
